In commemoration of the International Day of Awareness on Food Waste and Loss.
First Event of TRASHNOT’23
Yesterday, September 25th, 2023, TRASHNOT’23 was launched with great fanfare at Petite Monde Bilingual School in Akure, Nigeria. The launch marked the beginning of a remarkable campaign designed to combat food waste and promote a sustainable future.
Sensitization of secondary school students
During the event, our team of ten dedicated TRASHNOT volunteers spent an entire hour educating and inspiring 135 secondary school students. The session was truly transformative, opening young minds to the critical issue of food waste and its wide-ranging implications.
We introduced the students to the pressing problem of food waste and discussed in depth why it is such a significant issue in today’s world. We emphasized the staggering consequences of failing to take action to reduce food waste, highlighting how it negatively impacts our environment and communities. The session not only raised awareness of the challenges but also provided practical solutions and empowered students with knowledge.
One of the highlights of the event was the introduction of our TRASHNOT Tips, a set of straightforward yet highly effective strategies that each student could easily incorporate into their daily lives to minimize food waste. These tips provided a roadmap for sustainable living and encouraged the students to become active participants in the fight against food waste.
