Extracts from the TRASHNOT’23 Farmers Workshop
The TRASHNOT’23 Farmers Workshop that took place on Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2023, in Akure, Nigeria, was a truly inspiring event. The workshop brought together a group of 23 farmers who were passionate about transforming and improving their local food systems.
During the workshop, attendees were taught simple but effective ways to produce organic fertilizers using farm waste. Adetunji David Ajala, who led the session, shared his knowledge and experience on this topic, and the farmers learnt a great deal from him.
In addition to the organic fertilizers session, the workshop also featured a panel discussion on sustainable and profitable ways to optimize the yields of exotic vegetables. The panel covered a range of topics, from sustainable pest and disease management to effective land preparation and innovative spraying techniques.
What made the workshop truly remarkable, however, was the sense of community that developed among the local farmers. By sharing their experiences, attendees were able to build strong connections and collaborate on solutions. This sense of community is not only heartening but essential for creating a more resilient and sustainable food system that benefits farmers and consumers alike.
It is clear that implementing sustainable cultivation methods, using organic fertilizers, and fostering community among farmers are all steps that can contribute to a more sustainable and productive agriculture. The TRASHNOT’23 Farmers Workshop is an excellent example of impactful initiatives aimed at forging a more sustainable food system in Nigeria and beyond.
Overall, the TRASHNOT’23 Farmers Workshop was a huge success, and it is hoped that it will inspire more farmers to adopt sustainable and profitable practices in their own communities. With initiatives like this, we can create a better, more sustainable future for everyone.
